To celebrate Sunshine Week, NMFOG’s Second Annual #SunshineHaiku contest is now open for entries.
As government transparency adovcates work hard to strengthen and defend public access laws around the coutnry, we want to have some poetic fun with a little “Sunshine” play on words. Think about how your Haiku can shed light on the importance of #opengov.
Our national contest encourages you to showcase your creativity and poetry writing skills with a bright light Haiku. To enter, simply post your work to Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #SunshineHaiku and @NMFOG in the post. We’ll select winners next week.
ABOUT THE ART OF HAIKU
A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. Often focusing on images from nature, haiku emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression. Read more and find a few examples here.
PARTICIPATING IN THE CONTEST
Post your haiku to Facebook or twitter and tag it with #SunshineHaiku to enter the contest, beginning at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 13, 2017, through 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Please also add @NMFOG in each submission. The FOG staff and board of directors will vote to select their favorite poems and notify winners. The first-place winning entry will receive $50, second place $25 and third place $15. Read the official rules here.
