FOG Accepting Nominations for 2010 Dixon Award

Award given to open-government advocates working in business, law, education, government and journalism; submission deadline March 5

FOG is dedicated to defending the public’s right to know. But we can’t maintain freedom just by spouting rhetoric or lending moral support – this work requires boots on the ground. It takes time, passion and expertise. And it can be a thankless job.

Since 2002, FOG has celebrated the men and women who actively champion open government with the William S. Dixon First Amendment Freedom Award. The Award, which honors dedicated advocate and FOG co-founder William S. Dixon, is bestowed upon individuals in New Mexico who fight for transparency and/or First Amendment freedoms in the areas of business, law, education, government and journalism. These people make open government a reality in our state.

If you know someone who deserves the Dixon Award, please send us a letter describing that person’s activities and accomplishments. Specifically, tell us what that person has done to advance the cause of open government and/or First Amendment rights in New Mexico. The submission deadline is March 5, 2010. Nominations may be submitted to FOG at info@nmfog.org or 115 Gold Ave. SW, Suite 201, Albuquerque, 87102. Award recipients will be selected by a panel of FOG directors and honored at an awards banquet June 12, 2010.

Help us celebrate New Mexico’s freedom fighters! Nominate someone for the 2010 Dixon Award today.
