Campaign Finance Reporting Bill Advances

Today at the Roundhouse, the House Government, Elections and Indian Affairs Committee voted unanimously in favor of HB105 sponsored by Rep. Jim Smith (R-Sandia Park). FOG spoke in support of the bill, which would require improved campaign finance reporting technology on the Secretary of State’s website.

Currently, campaign finance reports housed on the Secretary of State’s website are typically in PDF format, which means the information is not searchable, sortable or downloadable. Improvements to the system would make it easier to find and manipulate data, draw conclusions and follow the money.

Ultimately, FOG believes this bill would go a long way to bringing more transparency and accountability to New Mexico’s campaign finance system.

HB105 Improve Campaign Finance will head to the House Appropriations and Finance Committee for further debate and consideration.
