Agencies and other public bodies across the state may ask you to utilize a specific method to make your request to inspect public records, such as an online portal. Although IPRA does not require you to use an agency’s online portal or any other specific method to make a request, making your request per the agency’s protocol will help ensure timely responses to your request. Although IPRA entitles you to a response for an oral or written request for records, you may only enforce a violation of IPRA if you make your request in writing. IPRA requires that your request “identify the records sought with reasonable particularity.”  IPRA also says that you do not have to state a reason for your request. If you are requesting law enforcement video or audio records, you must comply with NMSA 1978 § 14-2-1.2(B), which provides that “A request for release of video or audio shall specify at least one of the following:
