Majors named interim NMFOG executive director

The Board of Directors of the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government (NMFOG) today announced that Melanie J. Majors will become NMFOG’s interim executive director.

She replaces Peter St. Cyr, who was named executive director in late 2016. A longtime advocate for open government, Mr. St. Cyr plans to continue to work in the public’s interest and will be consulting with civic organizations, businesses and public entities on how they can leverage government data and technology to tackle state and local priorities.

NMFOG would like to thank him for his stewardship and accomplishments, including his hard work defending the public’s right to know, establishing the first Sunshine Week Candidate Forum and working with public agencies to make their websites more transparent.

Ms. Majors stepped down from the NMFOG board to take this position. Since 2010, she has been the owner of The Majors Company, a public relations, marketing and communication company. She has an extensive public relations and communication background with more than 25 years in the industry. She is currently an adjunct professor in the University of New Mexico’s Communications and Journalism Department.

Ms. Majors was a print reporter for seven years and later was an assistant assignment editor and a producer for KOB-TV 4.

She is the recipient of numerous awards from the New Mexico Press Association, New Mexico Press Women, the Associated Press Managing Editors and the New Mexico Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, which honored her with the Vista Award in 2008.

NMFOG has begun the process of filling the position of executive director on a permanent basis.
