BUDGETING FOR THE PEOPLE: WOULD MODERNIZING THE NEW MEXICO LEGISLATURE MAKE THE PROCESS MORE TRANSPARENT?

The New Mexico Foundation for Open Government is inviting the public to participate in a town hall meeting focused on the state’s budgeting process, and asking the question – Would modernizing the New Mexico Legislature make the budgeting process more transparent?

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road in Las Cruces. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The free forum is an opportunity for public to understand the complex budgeting process, provide input and gather feedback about the process.

FOG’s goal for the town hall is simple; FOG intends to provide information on the current budget process; gather information about public perception; offer valuable insights; supply valuable information for future use and allow people from diverse backgrounds a chance to express their views about the key issues.

The New Mexico Foundation for Open Government is hosting the event to acquaint the public with the budget making process for the New Mexico Legislature. The event is sponsored by the Thornburg Foundation. Representatives from the New Mexico Legislature’s Finance Committee, state senators and representatives will be participating in the event.
